“STATUETTE VOTIVE DELL’ ANTICA ROMA” – Ancient roman votive sculptures”

Queste statuette sono scolpite su legno di carpino e rappresentano un padre e suo figlio nel periodo della antica Roma. Gli abiti sono delle tuniche civili che vestivano il popolo romano nella quotidianità. Il padre calza le caligae, simolo della sua appartenenza all’esercito legionario di Roma. Queste statuette venivano utilizzate come ricordo della propria famiglia, oggetti votivi a cui rivolgere preghiere. Questo è stato riportato anche in una scena toccante del film “Il Gladiatore”

These two sculptures are carved out of hornbeam wood and represent father and son during the Ancient Rome. The clothes are civilian tunics that dressed Roman people. The father wears caligae, a symbol of his belonging to the Legionnaire of Rome. In Ancient Rome, sculptures as these were used as family memorories, votive objects to which prayers were addressed. This was also reported in a touching scene of the film “Gladiator”.
